Empey to join Legionnaires Coaching Staff
Submitted [Swift Current, SK] – Larry Empey has agreed to join the Swift Current Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires for the 2012 hockey season. Legionnaire Head Coach Dale Vossen made the announcement official today. “The Swift Current Legionnaires are very pleased to have Larry join our coaching staff for the upcoming season,” said Vossen in a phone interview earlier today.” “Larry brings a vast knowledge of the game and has been involved with the Sask First Program in the past which will enhance our recruiting program moving forward.” Empey is no stranger to the AAA midget program in town playing for Greg Woods back in 1989-91. He then joined the junior ranks playing for the SJHL Humboldt Broncos for two years being named an All-Star in his second season with the Broncos. Following his senior year he made the Erie Panthers for the 94-95 Season in the ECHL as a walk on. His semi- pro career saw him play 456 games with seven teams in the ECHL, CoHL and UHL. Empey is excited to join head coach Dale Vossen and the Legionnaire hockey program, “ I look forward to working with Dale, I think he will be just what this organization is looking for, a wealth of hockey knowledge, and a solid hockey guy to lead this program.” “We share a lot of the same philosophies and we both demand 100% effort and accountability.” Empey joins Vossen who took over for Jason Johns in early May of this year. The two join the team after a season in which the Legionnaires made the playoffs for the first time in eight years, finishing with a record of 19-23-2-0, but lost 10 consecutive regular season games to end the year and were then swept in round one by the Prince Albert Mintos.
